myEnergyLoan was created out of a clear need to close the sustainability loop in green building and green living. Building homes takes a lot of energy and living in homes does too. The total operating expenses of a home are largely made up of utility bills and mortage payments. That’s right. We see money as latent energy – energy that could be better applied on things other than the continued depletion of non-renewable resources. Since we don’t want to be part the extractive industries any more than we have to be, we created the myEnergyLoan as a way to make a living and make a difference. |

KC Boyce & Michelle Frost Residence
Located in Decatur, GA, this project is a major renovation that we recently financed. We could not be happier for Michelle and KC, who selected myEnergyLoan as their finance partner for this project and as a result received over $3,300 as a myEnergyLoan credit at closing. This project is being featured on the Discovery Channel’s new channel “Planet Green” – a cable television channel dedicated to the shift toward a greener planet. The renovation project is being led by a phenomenal renovation firm aptly named Renewal Construction. Led by brothers Peter and David Michelson, Renewal Construction is a strong leader in the hot “greenovation” category of Atlanta. Rather than tearing down an older home that KC and Michelle owned in order to build a new one, Renewal Construction was able to authentically provide a plan to “renew” the existing home with many green features including solar and geo-thermal systems. Having won many awards for their green renovations, Peter and David are known to be the go-to renovators in Decatur, the epi-center of Atlanta’s green movement.
Regarding the loan program and experience that KC and Michelle had with myEnergyLoan we want to say that it was no hayride for any of us. In fact, we barely closed this one as it ultimately was one of the last construction deals Countrywide funded prior to closing their construction lending division. We could not understand why this loan was so difficult considering that the borrower(s) exceeded initial guideline requirements set forth by Countrywide. It only became apparent after we fought tooth and nail that the reason was that with tightening credit markets, Countrywide was forced to close its construction lending division.
As the credit markets continue to tighten and as the Energy-Efficient-Mortgage landscape deteriorates as a result, myEnergyLoan is a light in the dark, getting green deals done and paying thousands of dollars as discounts earned by green property buyers who select us as their green property lender.
